The first ever 100NXC weekend meet.
We are going to Park Farm, Llangattock, Crickhowell, near Abergavenny. Just on the English/Welsh border close to the M5 (junction 8) via the M50 then the A40 and the M4 (Junction 24, Newport). The A40 runs right through Crickhowell. For most it is motorway and dual carriageway almost all the way.
Distances; from the Severn Bridge; 34 miles, Bristol, 46 miles; Birmingham via M5, M50, A40; 90 miles; Central London via M4, Severn Bridge, etc.; 160 miles. Pembroke Dock, 100 miles. Manchester, 173 miles (160 of them motorway/dual carriageway!)
Take a look for yourselves. From http://uk.msn.com/ go to maps at the top of the page. Look for Crickhowell, it will try to find businesses first but select locations. Use the aerial setting and zoom in. The site is just to the south of the town, you can see the caravans and tents if you look closely. Go to Google and look for Crickhowell or Llangattock websites too. A fabulous area for a Meet. Use AutoRoute if you have it or see what your Sat Nav can tell you!
The site is brilliant. A permanent campsite on a farm, easy access road, pub within 200 metres. The small town of Crickhowell is less than a mile away, chippie and basic shops there. Abergavenny is about 7 miles away with supermarkets and takeaways by the score. We should have a separate field to ourselves. The toilet block was refurbished a year or so back, free hot water and showers. I've used this site dozens of times over the years. For those who prefer not to camp there should be plenty of B & Bs around the area.
There's talk of a treasure hunt in the Welsh Hills. We will provide activities for the energetic but I suspect most will just settle on a quiet weekend with friends, old and new. Some of us plan to arrive on Thursday and some may stay on for a few days more after the weekend. The campsite has a simple charge system; you pay a basic site charge per person per night. Stay on another night; pay another night's camping fee. Take a few days off work and stay longer if you wish. Last year the campsite fee was £5 per person per night.
We hope to have a comemorative badge for the event too. No NXer can afford to miss this event!
Let's make this the greatest gathering of NXs ever seen in the British Isles!

A 2 and a half hour drive might be a bit much for my NX, the furthest she's ever gone on one journey was 40 miles.
Are they pretty sturdy on long journeys?

Simply the little group of people organising the event just couldn't find a campsite that was suitable or one that was prepared to take on a car club meet. We seached by map, internet and by driving around the Telford area.
The South Wales border site is excellent and welcoming but it was not in Telford. A simple easy to find campsite too. I suspect the final location will prove to be nearer for more NXers.
My N reg NX regularly does long journeys. It's been to North Yorkshire a few times. A 370 miles round trip, with just a one hour stop in Carlisle then back didn't worry it either. I drive a hundred miles in it without even thinking. It's well serviced on a regular basis. The Nissan engine is renowned for it longevity provided it has been treatly reasonably well.
The usual problem with most cars that are suddenly taken on long journeys seems to be lack of servicing. An oil change and new plugs beforehand would seem wise. A read through the basic servicing section of your Haynes manual should give you some pointers about simple servicing. Travelling with a litre of spare engine oil and a bottle of water makes good sense too! Correctly inflated tyres will help with fuel consumption.
Where are you based? A two and a half hour journey? 150 miles at the most I'd guess? I'll be travelling 112 miles to the campsite too. Unless you have problems generally the NX should be perfectly happy. Don't belt the hell out of it, take it steady!

to answer your question we searched and then some more and sadly we did not get many responses from sites
the majority of sites were on the small size and would not be able to take up to 20 cars and tents and those that were on the larger side .. well either we did not receive a response from or failed on general amenities
our criteria was built up from having been to JAE over the last few years and having seen poorly serviced amenities or the lack there of
Chris on the other hand did have first hand knowledge of this site and it became a tie up between this and a site close to Hollyhead that also showed an interest in hosting us.
trying to keep the site accessible to as many as possible declared the Crickhowell an outright winner
as for how durable the nx is ..
well after numerous trips around Ireland in my nxs and 5 trips to JAE .. thats normally a trip to the port around 80-90 miles and then from pembroke harbour to milton keynes .. and then onto Peterborough approx 300 and thats only one way ..
not to mention the trips that the lads up in scotland used to take down to JAE
so my advice .. and agree with chris on this one .. Good service .. check your turrets and the car will do the rest
also have a few numbers of members on hand and if you are worried .. join in on a convoy with some others passing close to your area..

And some more accomodation ideas:-
http://members.aol.com/redhartbandb/BB1.html
http://www.greenhillvillas.com/
http://www.dragoncrickhowell.co.uk/accommo...rickhowell.html
The Bear Hotel and The Dragon are the closest, this link's a simple map
http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction.do...p;x=29&y=11
And I've just booked this place -
Park Place
The Legar, Llangattock, Crickhowell, Powys NP8 1HL
Tel: 01873 810878
Nowt special I don't suppose, but 1 mile from the venue, and £30 for an ensuite single for the Saturday seems reasonable.
See you all there!!

Anyone going from the London area?

Anyone going from the London area?
A smart find Art! Park Place faces the town of Crickhowell although the most direct straight line route will include walking over the River Usk! Never fear the bridge is only 100 meters away. It is on the road to the site, only a few hundred metres' walk. Even better you can walk to the site by a footpath an even shorter distance.
For others not wishing to camp there are many B & Bs and hotels in the area but being mid July early booking would be sensible.
